Comet Katz - a song for the Friendly Felines of heavenly ski resort
Inspiration for the Song: The story of the Comet Katz was told from the chair by some long time Heavenly regulars. Watch it below. Scott Cummings, an extraordinary bump skier and all around friendly fellow, printed up stickers to hand out on the hill to anyone who showed up on the mogul run with any consistency. The Comet Katz are an informal ski buddy group with a Facebook page managed primarily by Craig Campbell (pictured in the slideshow).
I quizzed Katz on the chair, in the apres ski settings on the hill and off and put together a song that has been performed a few times for some of the Comet Katz members. Mary Hataway and Ronny Huff helped me tweak it - both Comet Katz themselves. I have sung it to total strangers on a few chair lifts and on the slopes. Soon it will be duly recorded and accompanied by some bump run footage. There are many optional additional verses that reference the many nicknames of some of the Katz. Craig was in the song so many times due to his wealth of nicknames and constant presence on the slope that he asked me to pare down to two of his nicknames. The recorded version won't have all the special nickname verses but a karaoke version would allow the Katz to add their own verse in the privacy of their own home. Here are the lyrics/chords and many optional verses. |
