Listen to this Still in-Production version now!
May need some kid voices on this onE.
what do you think?
'Nickname' will be a fun one to perform. Now I have made a YouTube movie with the rough version. The final product will have Danny drumming, Todd on harmonica and Nathan singing his special part, I hope!
Our band has never played it. Part of my goal with the CD production is to give my band mates something to listen to so that they can determine if and how we want to perform the songs - if any= live. So far, I have only done it solo with a class of fifth graders and we chatted during the song as I strummed about their nicknames. They really did shout them out, as the song suggests. It worked and I was happy. This is another song that started as a collaboration with my band leader, Nathan, and ended up in my hands = transformed and finished. He did come up with the phrase when we were talking that just had to stay in the song. I finished this along with a number of half baked songs over my short winter break at the end of 2014. He chuckles and rolls his eyes a bit whenever I mention the line ="I know a lot of Nates but that's not me, it's Nathan or Nat, let's stick with that." I hope to get him in the studio so that his voice can sing those lines.
Lyrics:
You tell someone you met your full exact name but they turn in into a quirky nickname.
If you want a nickname, you cant always pick
Seems the one you hate is the one that'll stick
Like he said...
I know a lot of Nates, but that's not me
It's Nathan or Nat, let's stick with that.
oo oo
Do you, do you have a nickname
do you do you, have a nick name
If it resonates, shout it out (otherwise let's find the guy and cuss him out
Shout it out , shout it out, shout it out
Your Nickname, Nickname
You've all been there too, when someone you see
They call out a name, you think who me?
and suddenly your realize they're talking to you
consider it flattery, or it might by true
..Nicknames are historical you know...
Make the name official like Jimmy Carter did
But be an HONEST ABE, not Billy the Kid.
