Congratulations are in order for Anthony Janssen, my busy producer. He just welcomed his second son named Duke Ellington Janssen, into the world. FaceBook is some people's main news station these days. I have to give it credit. Without it I would not have known for quite awhile. Happy Birthday little guy! I have to be happy even though this puts a little delay in the process of production, but it was to be expected. I am busy myself with work and practicing for our next band gig. The Scarlet Verbs will play the art festival in Eureka NV on the weekend of Sept. 21. I am working to commit the remainder of the 30 songs in our set list to memory.
I am starting to think more seriously about the pros and cons of various venues. Jethros might have food and space and even a stage and sound booth, but there are some people who won't go just because it is a bar and restaurant in the Ranchos.
I have thought of asking Anthony if he could host it at his rundown little studio across from my school office. The last high winds of spring took much of the roof and gutters off and there are toys and random tools scattered in the dusty yard. It would need some major clean-up but the central main street location is appealing and his studio is where the music was produced. He could benefit from some more exposure.
I have thought of Dangberg Ranch and wondered what that might cost but the long gravel road and the unknown factor seems to keep even the locals away from other events. The arts council charges a reasonable rental fee for their small space and it too is central but the space is very small - Kat Simmons uses it so she will be a good resource for me. I will start asking people for their opinion about a place for the CD release party. Maybe outdoors at the Minden Park - we could all fit on the stage area - it is so large! If we have a bigger crowd that could fit on the stage - well COOL. I was serendipitously offered a business card today for the woman that books music for the Minden Park Concerts. Certainly she will know who to talk to about that location.
I am using this blog as a stream of consciousness and since I am one of the few who reads it, I have slipped into even more private conversations with myself. I miss writing and drawing in my journals - something I did for years before I turned to music for a creative outlook. It occurs to me that I would like to make a tab for my old journals - often sources of inspiration for my songs. I could take pictures of the pages that are most memorable and inspiring to me and they would be one more window into my mind and soul.
