When Danny, our drummer, moved to Eureka, NV to be the principal last year, I said, "Get us a gig and we will come to Eureka." Danny is an achiever, a goal setter and gets results. He not only got us an April performance in the Opera House, but another festival performance in the town park. Both required us to submit a CD and paid over 300 dollars each - a good return for a long trip and a lot of fun preceded by practice that has led us into new directions. This time we stayed at Danny and Angela's home in Eureka. Jen, Nathan's girlfriend, even came along, so we had a house full with my family. We all took turns at dishes in the sink but Danny was the main cook in the kitchen and the food was better than any restaurant, even if one had been open in the tiny town when we needed one.
It was our April performance in the perfectly acoustically architectured Opera House that moved me onto a new plateau of performance. No sheet music on stage was my goal and I made it. In doing so I learned even more about music and myself. Reading more about the neuroplasticity of the brain, I know I am an experiment in the making. These musical endeavors have made so many new and stronger connections in my brain and I am reinforced in my belief that setting a goal and sticking to a practice routine will help anyone achieve their higher plateau. From the new stage of achievement you will then see the next step up and see your way there.
Picture: The shoe tree along Hwy 50, the loneliest highway is certainly not lonely for shoes and this last weekend it was heavily populated with bikes and chaser cars for a big biking event.
